Marc's Interview

January 21, 2009

I recently read an interview Marc did and he talked about fans that meet him and are convinced his songs are religious, I wonder why that is?

When I first started listening to O.A.R. and getting into the lyrics they seemed extremely deep and packed with morality. Then after I watched the 34th and 8th St. DVD I saw that Marc said that neither he or the rest of the band are really religious. I was really surprised at first but religious is kind of a vague word.
Recently I read that interview and Marc said some of the weirdest fan interactions are when people come up with a bible and are convinced that he wrote a song about a certain passage. I've talked to a lot of people about O.A.R. and there are plenty of people who think the music has religious significance and plenty of people who disagree and apparently are correct. I've come to the conclusion that Marc is just an epic story teller and the lyrics he uses are generally found in epic tales. (i.e. good vs evil, light vs dark, God, the devil, etc...) I was just curious to what everyone else thought about it so feel free to share your opinions.
