That one time I creeped out Jerry DePizzo
November 7, 2008If you ever get a chance to meet O.A.R. learn from my mistakes.
I met Chris (percussion) and Jerry (sax/guitar/awesome) as they were walking to the bus after playing in a large purple concert hall in my hometown of Sarasota. Jerry put his stuff on the bus and then came out to talk to my sister and I, asking us what there was to do in my city that had gone to sleep around 7 p.m.
I was so excited to meet him that I answered his question with the following: "I once bought a tenor saxophone off eBay and tried to teach myself how to play because of you."
His face quickly contorted into what has to be still today serve as the best example of a 'what the hell were you thinking?' face I have ever seen.
After several seconds of silence with my sister and Jerry DePizzo staring dumbfounded at me, he responded with a pleasantry remark. I sidelined myself for the remainder of the conversation, fearful that I might once again creep out Jerry DePizzo.
I've since sold the sax. Sorry Jerry, woodwinds just weren't for me.
be good to each other.
